Michele (paper.lilies)

here is the first interviewee paper.lilies!

where are you from?

georgia.

how did you take interest in photography?
i don't really know why i got interested in taking pictures, it just sort of happened. i remember i got a point and shoot for Christmas about 2 years ago, and i never used it until around fall of 2008, which is when i took interest in photography. and then i discovered flickr and it took off from there.

what is your most vivid dream?
he only one i can remember is when i was at this weird place and i had on vintage roller skates and i was riding down to my journalism class which was in one of those kid play houses. as i'm going down the hill, i see olivia bee in roller skates with a red ribbon in her hair. i remember thinking it was odd seeing her there because she doesn't go to me school. anyway, i go to my "class" and my teacher has all this weird stuff in her room and i can't fit inside because there's not enough room. then i try to follow olivia but she mysteriously disappears. then i woke up. random, i know.

what is/are your favorite subject(s) to photograph?

probably people. and anything that really catches my eye.

are there any main themes and ideas you try to convey through your photography?
i always have a sad or dark mood in my pictures. i just find them to be more interesting, i guess. i try to convey different feelings and emotions in my pictures, as well as a story behind it. that way people can interpret the picture however they like.

what is your absolute favorite thing about photography?
that you can do whatever you want with it, and no one can tell you otherwise.

what equipment do you use?
nikon d40 and a tripod.

do you have a favorite photographer?
ah there are so many amazing photographers. so, no, i don't really have a specific favorite.

what inspires you most?

everything and anything.

how do you prepare for a shoot (like do you have an idea before you shoot, or do you just take your camera out and take pictures), and how long does it usually take you to do a shoot?
i have millions of ideas for shoots, but usually, i just go out and take pictures because i often don't have models. but if i have a clear idea for a shoot, or models, i'll usually make lists of what to props and clothing to bring and plan out how we'd go about the shoot with them. it could take as little as 5 minutes to 2 hours. it just depends.

whats are you favorite songs/books/movies?
like coldplay a lot. i usually like sad acoustic or piano songs. for books, i love alice in wonderland, the diary of anne frank, to kill a mockingbird, kiki strike, etc. for movies, i like the series of unfortunate events, deja vu, the virgin suicides, and the secret life of bees.

if you could photograph any person past or present who would you photograph?
anne frank

do you have a favorite photo of yours?
probably this one:(http://www.flickr.com/photos/paperlilies/3226385039/).
